BRIEF INTRRODUCTION
The solemn hill of Esztramos is part of the Aggtelek Karst, in the Bódva valley, in the Northern Hungary Region.
It’s height was originally 380 m but due to the mining activity now it’s only 320 m.
Formed by limestone and containing several iron strikes it was an important minig site form the early medieval until the late 90’s.
The industrialization of the iron mining started in 1834, first in open-cast mining system, afterwards, form the year 1893 the started to develope the deep mine system also.
In 1951 the iron mine started to decay and 1960 it was closed definitely. Since then only the limestone mine was active, until 1990 when it was privatized. After the privatization the new owner neglected the mine, the infrasturcture was partly stolen and demolished and when the company bankrupted in 1996 the mine colsed forever.
The hill was very rich in natural beauties, mostly natural caves, underground lakes, uniques even in this world famouse Karst region. The mining activity highly damaged this natural enviroment: in the last century they found 52 caves but 18 of them are disapperead completly, and the rest is also suffered certain destruction due to the deep excavations and the detonations of the open-cast mining process.
Even the industrial mining destructed a big part of the hill and the caves inside, the remains are still so valuables that in 1998 the Aggtelek National Park acquired the territory and it was attached to the Unesco Word Heritage protected area of the National Park.
Since then there were many plans for the reuse and recreation of the former mine area, to convert it to a touristic destination but these planes never getting realised.
However, the hill and the former mine site has planty of posibilites to became a potential touristic destinantion. The beauty of the natural enviroment, the fantastic and unique subterrain world is ideal for the adventure tourism while the rests of the mine (the well-preserved former courses and underground facilities and the not so well-preserved buildings) should be converted to an outstandig and complex mining museum.
And finally, it would be a chance for the local community to survive after the collapsing the local industry almost 25 years ago.

BRIEF INTRRODUCTION
The construction camp at Perbál will be organized for the ninth time this summer, between the 17th and the 30th of July. In the heart of the settlementstands a building, which has been uninhabited for a
few years and is in need of renovation. It is theproperty of the Live On Association. It has a layoutcharacteristic of its region and given an adequatefunction this house could well serve everyday lifeat theChildren’s Home. The task at hand is twofold:remaking the interior renders of the adobe walls andexploring possible functions for the building.
location
Perbál is a settlement cca. 35 km northwest ofBudapest, located in the picturesque Zsámbéki basin. Its neighbours are Tök, Telki and Tinnye. Todayssettlement origins date back to prehistoricaltimes, its rootsreach as far as the bronze age. Asa consequence the town has been destroyed severaltimes with itsinhabitants scattered throughout theworld or their day-to-day lives drastically changed.Despite their challenges acceptance, peacefulcoexistence and looking ahead have characterizedthe townsfolk. Time and again their hopeful attitudehas helped them reformulate their multinationalcommunity, of which 2030 people currently live inPerbál.
Children’s Home
The Children’s Home of the Live On Association wasfounded by a group of parents that was looking for a higher quality alternative to the state provided care. The uniqueness of the institution lies in thattheinhabitants - organized into small communities- live their weekdays helping each other. On the weekends most of the inhabitants are taken home to spend time with their families, while the others are visited by their own. Another decisive factor is the closeness of nature, which aside from its innate benefical effects provides useful occupation to the least impaired through agricultural activities.
culture and architecture
in search of an adapting architecture
The first seven years were focused on the crucial maintenance works of the buildings at the Children’s Home. Although the renovational tasks still play an important role, the focus has gradually shifted to development. These developments of the Children’s Home however can only serve the life of the institution truly if they reflect on the vision of the people who work and live there.Getting to know the different layers of a given region in terms of space and time is fundamental to adaptation. This is what we will try to achieve on our course‚ Culture and architecture’ this fall. This year’s camp – aside from the construction works – is a preparation for this process through on-site presence and observation.
about plaster
During the camp we will cover the cleansed raw inner surface of the walls with an adobe plaster in two or three layers if necessary. The idea is to create a fine finish on top of a fiber reinforced base layer. Parallel to the construction works we want to place temperature and humidity sensors into the walls as well as in its immediate environment in order to monitor the behaviour of the wall. The effect of the changes in indoor and outdoor air temperature and humidity on the wall and the wall’s moisture storage capacity can be examined in this way.

BRIEF INTRRODUCTION
The area of the hill Somló is moreover quite rich in the heritage of different cultures. The hill is an element of outstanding importance in the landscape, and the defining character of the earlier and current use of the territory. The sole volcanic hill attracts a number of visitors with its famous wines, friendly wine cellars, lookout tower, interesting geological and natural features and the ruined castle. The highly patriotic winemakers also supported the idea of granting different protections to their valuable hill.
After discussions the Protected Landscape Area was established in 1983 with 585 hectares under the guidance of the Balaton Upland National Park. The main aim was to preserve the cultural relics and natural values by turning back to the traditions of the area. Our departmental project aims to be World Heritage site, since 5 years we are preparing the necessary documentation and dealing with the local authorities. The area is an exceptional example of sustainable and productive cultural landscape that is uniqueand representative of a tradition that is important symbol for wine productionencompasses vineyard landscapes, which include approx. 2500 small scale ancient and also contemporary cellars on the foothills, 3 middle age churches, a castle and remains ofnumerous archaeological cultures. It reflects a more than 6000 years tradition of land use, a 3500 years long culture of habitation and 2500 years memory of wine making. The built in areas, mainly situated on terraces and the slightly sloping areas of the hill, are characterized by the Balaton Upland “style” and local impacts. Building materials werelocal basalt stone, and carved wood with clay tiles for the roofs. The whole small scalelandscape illustrates natural, economic and cultural features, combined in a hill area with collaboratively cultivated grape plantations, some ancient of these in recent clearings of the high plateau forest. The typical local architecture is a fusion between the cultural patterns and the indigenous culture of the region adapted as well to the winemaking process. The Somló is an outstanding example of continuing land-use, in which thecollective effort indicated innovative and traditional practices of natural resources in the changing geographical conditions. Within the frame of our site project will be collected all of the relevant data of the values and the urgent intervention points. Our aim also to offer proposals and initiate suggestions to renew and revitalize the underdeveloped segments of the territory.
